American films vs. European films

George Lucas on film budgets:

“The average [Hollywood budget] is something like $60 million, [but] the average cost of making a movie in Europe is $3.5 million. That’s the way things are really competing. I think the American film industry is going to become like the rest of the world — and people won’t get paid as much.”

Even if this is an off-the-cuff estimate, the disparity is still huge.
