Roberto Bolano has advice on writing short stories (pretty funny and moderately helpful).
It is best to write short stories three or five at a time. If one has the energy, write them nine or fifteen at a time.
It occurred to me that I’ve mostly been writing short fiction (for the past 20 years), so I probably could write this same article. Sometime.
Actually I can summarize my advice on writing short stories to this: Read Dino Buzzatti, Hans Christian Andersen, Anton Chekhov. Oh, and perhaps throw in Raymond Carver (for modernity’s sake).
