Hostile interviews in USA

I’m no fan of Iran’s president. But this week he appeared on 60 Minutes and subjected himself to one of the most hostile interviews ever (kudos to Scott Pelley). See transcript part 1 and part 2. Then he gave a speech at Columbia where he was booed and asked even more hostile questions. I’m all for confronting dictators,  but shouldn’t journalists respect the dignity of the office itself? Then, again, nobody forced the Iranian president to appear on this show.

How it plays out here really doesn’t matter. How it plays out in the Middle East is what counts.

I suspect that there he’s seen as something of a hero – and that we’re widely seen as boors for being rude.
