I for one am growing weary of political nominees claiming they are unfamiliar with the details of a case or situation or policy and so cannot answer the question. Sometimes that line is appropriate (for judges for instance about future cases), but Mukasey’s “I don’t know” answers about waterboarding, torture and executive authority borders on the ridiculous. Shouldn’t an attorney general know these things and be able to talk about them?
