  • Married life vs. single life (revisited)

Stefanie Marsh on why single life sucks.

And, being single, I’m wary of holidays anyway. They remind me of that realisation I always seem to have abroad, that I can’t spend the rest of my life with this person. Because single people spend most of their time inside their heads, we tend to exaggerate bad past experiences. So maybe my holidays were good, but how would I know? The inside of my brain resembles the combined plots of The Poseidon Adventure and Saw III played on loop with all the uplifting parts edited out.

    Funny comments on this article:

    By a single person:

The truth about being single is contained in this one line, “Absolutely nobody in the world gives a toss about you, …” I have a great job/income, a lovely home, fill my life with charity work but would I give it all up tomorrow if just one person loved & valued me.

By a married person (paraphrasing Strindberg)

marriage is like an eel trap, those on the outside want in and those on the inside want out.

I’ve written about that before .

(Vowing to post a lot more frequently).

  • Not Posting (Again!)

I can’t explain this illness of not being able to post. Previously, it was so effortless. Granted, I have been extremely busy lately, but every time I think I have something to blog about, I end up not blogging it.

I have been reading and thinking a lot, and my life is changing in unexpected ways (did I mention my car was flooded last week?). On the other hand, I have not had a chance to do much reading (it pains me) though I started playing the videogame Spore with my nephew.

There’s a lot of election stuff to write about, but alas, isn’t it a foregone conclusion? (Easter Lemming Liberal has provided some gems. See this hard-hitting TV journalism about Harris County voting records by Channel 11 KHOU

Ron Howard makes a sincere but effective political commercialNatalie Portman gets on the bandwagon (funny, nonfemales and noncelebrities could never get away with this malarkey).

When you fall behind on blogging and intellectual stuff in general, you continue reading, but you no longer have cutting edge insights; you are busy playing a game of catch up.

In other news, I will be doing nanowrimo again this year in November.

  • Update: Blogging at Teleread

I’m back from my Europe trip. It was a great trip, and I still haven’t gotten settled in, and I’ve been a little sick.

I just wanted to mention that I edit a blog/journal called  Teleread  with David Rothman. David had a heart attack last week, so I’ve been busy managing things there (and it will probably be that way for the next few weeks). Because I expect to be posting more frequently on Teleread over the next few weeks, posting on my personal blog will be less frequent.  If you want, you can check the teleread posts written by me.  (Nothing of note there yet, but by next week, there will be).
