Pardon me for getting regional, but here’s an extremely well written piece by David Crossley about why mass transits would do great things for Houston. David Crossley has written several articles about urban renewal in Houston. I live in the Westchase suburb in Houston, which is close to a library, movie theatre, churches, hotels and several restaurants. Still, it is rather awful with the noise pollution of the cars along Westheimer. Also, there is really no arts community west of Beltway 8 (that is partly why I’m organizing the FrayDay Houston event in West Houston, where there is nothing but cars, supermarkets, parking lots and fast food.

Waterlily’s Internet Romance
Waterlily, i.e., Kathy Ann Ratliff, is a rabid Houston blogger with a a Buffy/Angel blog, even a blog about how much money she spends every day on lunch! I’ve looked briefly at each Houston blog, and rarely do I get the chance to read. Kathy is a savvy programmer (she uses pmachine php weblogging software, something I almost chose). and has a good sense of design. Here’s a piece she wrote about her Internet romance with her husband, beginning in a chat room and ending at a wedding proposal at the airport.
Kathy’s life is one more life totally transformed by the Internet. What would her life be like if she had been born a mere 20 years earlier?

Right-wing Bullying
A Register article about Fox Network’s Attempt to Intimidate a Website Selling Parody T-shirts. Commentator Thomas C. Greene writes:
We find it especially amusing that FOX would dare decry anyone’s ‘incredibly poor taste’, being the network responsible for such classics of taste and family values as “Married by America,” a lowbrow vox-pop-style mockery of the sacrament of matrimony in which contestants agree to tie the knot with a suitor elected by FOX’s viewership.
